A WORD FROM THE TEACHER
I've been teaching yoga professionally for a good twelve years. For the past twenty years, I've made this wondrous art form an integral part of my life, almost every single day.
Why do I describe yoga as an "art form"?
In my eyes, yoga is beautiful and artistic. It is pure poetry in motion.
Many years ago, I was plagued by illnesses. My white blood cells were in excess, and after giving birth to my son, I suffered from water retention, weight problem, and a weak immune system. I fell ill so easily my friends started calling me the "Pill Box".
One fateful day, I got acquainted with a yoga master from Taiwan who acquired her knowledge from India, where yoga originated from. Back then, yoga wasn't widespread and many people mistook it to be a religious form of exercise. After experiencing it personally, I discovered this was far from the truth.
Under her guidance, I ventured into the realm of yoga - an oasis of beauty, truth, and purity - where the pursuit of spirituality, happiness, health, beauty engulfed me. With the daily practising of yoga, I regained my health. I felt stronger, full of life, and more energetic each day.
As a yoga teacher and enthusiast, I travel to various parts of the world, including America, Japan, and Thailand, to deepen my understanding and relationship with yoga, whenever the opportunity arises. It is always enriching to trade experiences with other yoga enthusiasts. There is so much to yoga one can never stop to learn more about it.
The single most precious memory I have must be the yoga retreat I spent in snowy Hokkaido. Nature, Spirit and Body were unified across a grand yet pure sheet of white. It was a truly unforgettable experience that I wouldn't trade with anything.
Recently, I've also made a trip to Boston to be trained and certified in yoga for kids and teenagers. Imparting yoga knowledge and skills to the younger ones is a different ballgame and requires different coaching methods. Now I am actively recruiting and setting up my classes for them, so they can benefit from yoga too from young.
My students come from all walks of life, different backgrounds, and cultures. My youngest student is four years of age, and the most senior one is seventy. Yoga is for everyone and anyone! It is very rewarding to see them learning yoga, improving each lesson, setting their mind and body free. To guide each and every one of my students well is my utmost responsibility, and also my biggest joy.
I am grateful for how yoga has touched my life and changed it. It nourished my otherwise pale and ghastly world. It is my wish that many more people can benefit from the power of yoga, and learn about its greatness, just like I have.
To health, beauty, and wellness.
